I would recommend avoiding desserts heavy in sugar or fructose. Eating too much sweets can contribute to gout flare ups. Fruit can be a good alternative to piece of cake or candy. If you do decide to indulge in some sweets, be sure to drink plenty of water. While honey does not contain purines, it is heavy in fructose, glucose and sucrose. I’ve heard Stevia may be a good substitute for sugar or honey.
